Advent 1: Jesus brings us peace

CHURCH ON SUNDAY - DECEMBER 1
We will all be together this week for a family pancake breakfast and nativity dress up morning.
Come at 9:45am for pancakes.
Dress as a character from the story of the birth of Jesus and have a family photo taken together at the manger.
Join us to sing and tell the story of the birth of Emmanuel - God with us!

TO READ TOGETHER
Isaiah 2:1-5
God will bring peace.
Read the prophesy in Isaiah about the kingdom of God.
Holidays can be stressful for families. Invitations to celebrations, family gatherings, and holiday programs—or even the absence of these things—can add stress to this season.
Let’s remember that God’s promise is peace during this advent season.

TO TALK ABOUT:
If you were Mary & Joseph and you had to travel to Bethlehem would you rather walk or ride on a donkey? What do you think the trip was like for them?

TO PRAY TOGETHER
Jesus, we are getting ready to celebrate your birth. There are a lot of days to go before Christmas. Help us keep our eyes open to see you in this season. Amen

TO DO TOGETHER
Make an advent wreath together.
Decide where it will go - ideally somewhere that will it will not have to move.
Place four pillar candles on a heat-safe plate or surface.
Work together to add green around and between the candles with branches, fabric or ribbon. Tuck the ends in - beware of having flammable things near the wicks!
On the first Sunday of Advent choose someone to light the first candle and ask them to tell you about something they are excited for in this season as we wait for Jesus.

(Light an additional candle each week)
