Blessed are the poor in spirit

BridgeKIDS and adults will be going through the Beatitudes in our online gatherings this fall.

FROM YESTERDAYS BRIDGEKIDS@HOME (Sep 20)
We read the whole passage, Matthew 4:23-5:12, and talked about what it means to be BLESSED or TRULY HAPPY according to Jesus. We talked about special places that we go to meet with God and made climbing harnesses for our stuffies from yarn.

THE CHALLENGE FOR THIS WEEK:
Some people feel blessed at the top of a mountain. Some feel blessed at the beach. Some feel blessed when they are tucked into bed by a parent. Discuss what places are most special for your family. Think of everyday places like a favourite park and extraordinary places where you have made memories. What makes those places special? Is it hard work to get there?

Decide together to visit a special place as a family or hunt through your photos for one at that special place. While you are there, or as you talk about the picture, take a moment and remember that you are blessed to be a family

This weeks challenge: Show us your special places!

FOR SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 27
To read & a beatitude to remember
The Beatitude for this Sunday is:

‘Blessed are the poor in Spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.’

Many of the people Jesus spent time with were poor in money, land, and honour, there was nothing special about them but many also felt ‘poor in spirit’. Think of this like being sad and worried that things might never get better. Maybe they were feeling trapped, and their biggest fear was that tomorrow would be just like today, or maybe even worse. They did not feel blessed. Maybe you’ve felt this way too. But, listen to the promise, theirs is the kingdom of heaven. True honour, belonging, and power belong to the poor - Jesus turns everything upside down.
