Wednesday, March 20, Lent, Day 31
This quote encourages us to turn towards the oppressor and to pray for them, because ‘Those who are at war with others are not at peace with themselves.’ William Hazlitt.
This encourages compassion and lovingkindness towards someone who doesn’t have any of those things for themselves and then turns it outward onto others.
You know those times when you lose your rag at something small and insignificant? I know those moments, and more often than not it is not about the small thing but instead, ‘the issue is not the issue.’ Always there is a war within me that is raging and it is spilling out over something little.
I think because I know what this is like I can have empathy for others in their outburst.
Let’s pray
May we all have compassion for ourselves.
May we have lovingkindness for ourselves.
And then turn and give those away to others also.
In the Name of the One who is perfect love.
Amen.
