Hello, lovely families,
I know, I've been quiet on the kid front for a while. I'm sorry about that but it was all a bit up in the air with moving and working out how we move ahead with kids church.
Well this is interesting...
When we toured Emmanuel, the kids pastor floated the idea of merging our kids groups together when we are there. They have a few kids, and we have a few kids and together a few plus a few equals more fun! They only have kids church every other week, which is good, because we only have kids two times a month also when we are in person+, this might just work.
Good News!
I needed to understand what Emmanuel's thoughts and ideas about kids ministry were before agreeing to this as a plan, so I met with Rachel Nevarro (kids and family pastor) last week. Rachel and I could not be more on the same page if we had written the page together.
Part of the page reads:
Core Truths
- A child’s experiences of love are experiences of God.
- A child’s experiences of God are trustworthy.
- A child’s questions or confusion are signs of real faith being worked out. It’s not a distraction or interruption, it’s engagement.
- Nothing matters as much as kids learning they are loved by God, loved by us, and have the ability to love others.
Our Heart for Kids Church
Love God, love others, love self
Everything we teach and do in Kids Church should reinforce what we want kids to know about:
- Who God is and how God loves them
- Who they were created to be
- How God’s identity and our identities inspire us to love others
I think that this is going to flow really well for our kids, there is nothing that caused me any concern about the way they do kids church.
They are using a curriculum produced by Pete Enns that I really like the look of.
Slight snag
They have Kids Church every other week, which is great as we also have kids church when we meet which is when we are in person+, but they ignore 5 week months and so we are out of sync right now. We line up on Dec 14 and then are lined up on the same Sundays pretty much all the way to the summer so our kids can be together.
In the meantime, for the next three Sundays when we are In Person+, Oct 26, Nov 9, and 23, we will do kids on our own but are able to use the kids rooms upstairs and we will follow the same curriculum that they are doing on the other weeks so that we all line up when we sync up on Dec 14.
So, to this Sunday
I will be taking the kids out after one song (to get us used to our new timings)
Shaeya Wiens will be the team with me.
The story for this week is:
Small beginnings, big results (Matthew 13:31-33)
The kindom of heaven may have unimpressive beginnings but will have amazing results. Jesus used two every day things to help people understand how it works.
Hope to see you Sunday! Let's get this party started!
