Blessed are the meek

FROM YESTERDAYS BRIDGEKIDS@HOME
We talked about the second Beatitude: Blessed are those who mourn for they will be comforted. We talked about being sad and who and what gives us comfort and that God can use us to comfort other people. When we are sad we remember that God knows all about sadness and that God will comfort us as we work through it.
Idea for family night: Watch Inside Out together and see how Sadness becomes a hero in the story.

THE CHALLENGE FOR THIS WEEK:

How do you comfort a friend who is sad? Some people send messages or cards to encourage their friends who are sad.
Your challenge is to make and send or give a card. The front says, “When you are feeling sad, remember…” On the inside, write your own words of comfort, like…

  • Everyone feels sad sometimes
  • I am here if you need me
  • Someday you will feel better
  • God is with you and knows about sadness

FOR SUNDAY OCTOBER 11
To read & a beatitude to remember

‘Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.’

Other words for meekness are humility and gentleness. We can show gentleness to ourselves, each other and creation. If the gentle will inherit the earth what does that mean about how we should treat the place where we live? The people listening to Jesus would have recognized this Beatitude from one of their worship songs, Psalm 37:11 says, ‘the humble will have land of their own’, this is good news for the poor, the gentle, the humble, and all the other words that mean meek.
