Blessed are the persecuted

BridgeKIDS and adults are going through the Beatitudes in our online gatherings this fall.

FROM YESTERDAYS BRIDGEKIDS @ HOME
‘Blessed are the peacemakers for they will be called children of God.’
We made sock puppets and gave them names and voices. People who are peacemakers are children of God because they are doing the work of bringing peace, like God does in the kingdom of God.
God desires peace among all people: young and old, disabled and non-disabled, among all genders, between nations, and among all expressions of faith. God’s peace is not fake peace, it is a deep wholeness. That’s why Jesus blessed the peacemakers.

THE CHALLENGE FOR THIS WEEK:

Make a sock puppet - or finish and embellish the one we started yesterday. Have your puppet tell people: You are blessed to be a peacemaker.
Bonus points for filming your puppet giving the message.

FOR SUNDAY NOVEMBER 15
To read & a beatitude to remember

‘Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.’

When we live in the upside down world of the kingdom of heaven where the powerless are blessed we sometimes have to make courageous choices in the way we live. This can mean that others don’t understand it and laugh at us or be mean to us. Followers of Jesus who are living Jesus’ way and doing the work of bringing God’s kingdom on earth can expect there to be people who react harshly because they don’t get it. In this beatitude Jesus is saying, it’s going to happen, but I have good news for you - you are blessed as a result of people persecuting you.
