Sep 25 - WILD KIDS!

LAST SUNDAY
This past week on zoom we talked about different ways to learn and play and rest and listened to a story about Jesus and his disciples. The disciples were always learning from Jesus, helping Him with things, and He taught them how to take a rest too. We practiced focusing on our breathing when we are standing, rooted to the ground and safe and when we are sitting, supported and surrounded by love.

THIS WEEK - SEP 25
TO READ
2 Peter 3:4, 8-9
Peter is talking about patience and things maybe not looking like we might expect them to. The natural world is a great place to understand slowness and patience as it often grows so slowly we can’t even see it. To that end we will be outside and using the natural world around us to explore this idea. We will be learning how to worship God in the great outdoors using our senses..

TO PRAY

Thank you God for all that has been created.

My favourite growing thing is ________.
Open my eyes when I am outdoors because I would love you to show me something amazing today.
Amen.

AN IDEA TO THINK ABOUT AND MAYBE DO
We are at the tail end of the growing season but you might still have things that are growing in your house or yard. You could measure them to see how big they are and then see if they have changed in a day, or a week. If you can’t see things growing does that mean it isn’t?

MEET US ON THE PLAYGROUND
We’ll be ready to greet kids on the playground at the Legacy Centre at 10:25 so you have time to settle them with us and get into the adult space.
Dress for the weather and also to play.
Bring a drink for our snack time (we have snacks).
We’ll bring your children back to you at the end.

WHY DO KIDS OUTSIDE?
My aim with WILD KIDS OUTSIDE is to explore characteristics of our Creator by being in creation, to allow nature to speak to us and teach us about how to love and care for ourselves, each other and creation itself. Jesus often used creation to illustrate his stories. I think he might have been on to something.

WHAT IF IT’S WET?
We have a shelter we can be under but we’ll stay outside. There is no wrong weather, only wrong clothing choices so dress your kids for the weather and we’ll be in great shape. Pack them a warm drink as the weather gets cooler and that will make our snack time a good time.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?
I would love to have you (parents/carers/teenage siblings) join the team when we are outside. There are only three WILD KIDS OUTSIDE between now and Christmas so the more of you we get the more we can spread this out. We’ll see how that pans out given numbers of both kids and adults.
