January 11 - Jesus' life is in danger

BridgeKIDS are joining with the kids from Emmanuel this Sunday.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 11
This weekend marks the start of a nice long run of the Bridge's in person Sunday mornings lining up with when the kids at Emmanuel meet so both groups can be together.
Check in with Sarah when you arrive at church and we’ll get signed in so we can just leave when it’s time. We’ll go upstairs to meet up during our sung worship, let’s aim for the end of the first song to make our way up there.

HOME IDEAS
To read together
Matthew 2:13-15

For parents: This story completes the Christmas/epiphany season and sees Jesus going to Egypt with his family because he is in danger. The parallel is drawn between Jesus going to Egypt and the people of Israel going to Egypt in their history.
Please note that we stop the telling of this story before Herod sends the soldiers to Bethlehem because that is not an appropriate story for children!

For older children you might like to talk about refugees, as that is what the family became. But make sure that they children know that they were together and there was safety in that.

A game to play
This is an alphabet memory game which you can choose to make serious or silly (probably silly).

The first person starts by saying, ‘We’re going on a journey and we’re taking - something starting with a’
The next person then says, ‘We’re going on a journey and we’re taking - the thing that started with a, and add something that starts with b’ etc
See how far you can go and still remember everything you are taking.

For smaller kids you could pack a bag together and ask them to hunt for various things to go in it.

Prayer
God, I am so glad you were looking out for Jesus and he had Mary and Joseph to care for him and help keep him safe. Thank you for my family and friends who keep me safe too. I pray for any kid who isn’t in a good position that they would have grown ups around them to look after them. Amen.
